Practice Areas

Century Law Firm is a full-service litigation practice based at Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi. We appear in the District Courts of Delhi, the Delhi High Court, the Supreme Court of India and the tribunals that sit in the capital – the Debt Recovery Tribunals, the consumer commissions and the Motor Accident Claims Tribunals. The firm is led by Advocate Satish Prakash Gupta and works across the areas below. Each heading explains what the work involves, which law and which court apply, and links to our detailed guides.

Criminal Defence & Bail

From the first police complaint to the final appeal. We handle FIR registration and quashing, anticipatory and regular bail, trials under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (formerly the Indian Penal Code) and special statutes such as the NDPS Act, POCSO Act and Prevention of Corruption Act, and appeals before the Delhi High Court and Supreme Court. Our dedicated criminal defence page explains the stages of a criminal trial in Delhi and how bail works.

Divorce & Family Law

Mutual consent and contested divorce under the Hindu Marriage Act, Special Marriage Act and personal laws; maintenance and alimony; child custody and visitation; protection orders under the Domestic Violence Act; and defence in Section 498A (now Section 85 BNS) and dowry cases. Matters are filed in the Family Courts at Tis Hazari, Rohini, Saket, Dwarka, Patiala House and Karkardooma, with appeals to the Delhi High Court. Start with our divorce and family law page.

Property & Civil Litigation

Suits for possession, partition, declaration and injunction; specific performance of sale agreements; landlord–tenant disputes under the Delhi Rent Control Act; mutation of property records; conversion of leasehold DDA and L&DO properties to freehold; and succession matters including wills, probate and surviving-member certificates. Civil suits in Delhi are filed before the District Courts or, above the pecuniary limit of ₹2 crore, the Delhi High Court. Our court-fee and jurisdiction calculator works out the court fee and the right court for a suit.

Cheque Bounce, Recovery & Debt Recovery Tribunal

Complaints under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act for dishonoured cheques; summary suits for recovery of money under Order XXXVII of the Code of Civil Procedure; defence of borrowers and guarantors before the Debt Recovery Tribunals under the SARFAESI Act and the Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act; and insurance and banking disputes. Our DRT jurisdiction finder shows which of Delhi's three tribunals hears a matter.

Corporate, Commercial & Arbitration

Company law and shareholder disputes before the NCLT; commercial suits above ₹3 lakh under the Commercial Courts Act, 2015; arbitration under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 – from appointment of arbitrators (Section 11) to enforcement and challenge of awards (Sections 34 and 36); and labour and employment disputes before the Labour Courts and Industrial Tribunals. We also advise start-ups and small businesses on contracts, compliance and recovery.

Courts Where We Appear

Our chambers are at Tis Hazari Courts, and we appear daily across the Delhi District Courts – Tis Hazari, Rohini, Karkardooma, Saket, Dwarka, Patiala House and Rouse Avenue – as well as the Delhi High Court, the Supreme Court of India and the district courts of Gurugram, Faridabad and Sonipat. Questions Clients Ask Us First

Which court will hear my case in Delhi?

Civil suits go to the District Court for the area where the property is situated or the defendant lives, unless the value exceeds ₹2 crore, when the Delhi High Court has original jurisdiction. Criminal cases are tried in the court whose area covers the police station that registered the FIR. Family matters go to the Family Court for the district where the couple last lived together. Our court finder maps every Delhi police station to its court complex.

How much court fee will I pay?

Court fee in Delhi is charged under the Court Fees Act as applied to Delhi and depends on the type of suit and the value of the claim. A suit for recovery of money is charged on the amount claimed; a suit for possession on the market value of the property; declarations and injunctions on fixed amounts. Our court-fee calculator gives the figure for Delhi, and a state-wise calculator covers other States.

Do you handle both sides of a matter – complainant and accused, landlord and tenant?

Yes. We act for complainants and for the accused in criminal matters, for both spouses in matrimonial matters (never both in the same case), for landlords and tenants, and for lenders and borrowers before the Debt Recovery Tribunals. Knowing how the other side builds its case is part of what makes our advice useful.

What has changed with the new criminal laws?

From 1 July 2024 the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam replaced the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act for new offences. Cases registered before that date continue under the old Codes. Section numbers have changed – Section 498A IPC is now Section 85 BNS, Section 302 is Section 103, Section 420 is Section 318(4). Our legal code comparison tool converts any old section to the new one.

How long does a case take?

It varies widely by court and type of matter. A mutual consent divorce can conclude in about six to eighteen months (sooner if the court waives the cooling-off period); a cheque bounce complaint typically takes one to three years; a contested civil suit often runs several years. We give a realistic estimate for your matter at the first consultation and explain the steps that can shorten it, such as mediation or summary procedure.
